Justin Timberlake established in the letter that he posted to fans on his website yesterday that he's been waiting a long time to release "The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2." A year to be exact, and he's struggling to keep it to himself. He gave a few more details regarding the album when he stopped by New York City radio station Hot 97 on Wednesday.
Timberlake specifically discussed two tracks that would feature guest spots from two of the world's biggest rappers. One track, "Murder," came from the same recording session where Timberlake and Jay Z laid down the former's "Suit & Tie," and the latter's "Holy Grail" and "BBC." Jay's appearance was a late addition to the track.
"All of these songs were recorded together a year ago," Timberlake said. "So the song that Jay's on on the second half, it was a song I had done, and I was like, put an extra 16 bars on there, because I know Hov would like - I just heard him on it."
Timberlake also praised the range of Drake, who raps and sings during "Cabaret."
"The Drake thing was a song that was sitting around, and I just heard him on it," Timberlake said. "And Drake and I were trying to get at each other about doing a record, and I think we'll probably end up doing more as time goes by as well. The guy sings, raps, whatever...he killed it."
Naturally, being a morning talk show, conversation didn't stick to Timberlake's music too long. The pop star discussed the eventful MTV Video Music Awards, including his reunion performance with 'NSync and receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award. The hot question being asked to every pop musician right now is their response to Kendrick Lamar declaring himself the "king of New York" Miley Cyrus and her twerk routine at the show. Timberlake said to cut her a break.
"She's young, take it easy on her," he said. "It's the VMAs. You know what I mean, like, it's not the Grammys. We're talking about Madonna in a wedding dress humping the stage, we're talking about Britney doing a striptease. This cycle is not uncommon."
