The 34th annual John Lennon Tribute Concert will take place on Dec. 5 in New York City, and today, the concert’s lineup has been announced, Rolling Stone reports. Among the headliners are Debbie Harry of Blondie, David Johansen of the New York Dolls, and Kate Pierson of the B-52s. Rock photographer Bob Gruen, who photographed Lennon during the ‘70s, will be honored at the event with the first ever John Lennon Real Love Award.
Other scheduled performers at this year’s concert, which takes place at Symphony Space and is sponsored by Theatre Within and Music Without Borders, include Joan Osborne, Marshall Crenshaw, Ben E. King, Rich Pagano, The Kennedys, Chrissi Poland, Joe Raiola, and Amy Helm. Joan Osborne will reportedly be performing the same three songs — “Whatever Gets You Through The Night,” “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” and “I Saw Her Standing There” — that Lennon performed with Elton John at Madison Square Garden in Nov. 1974, which was his last major live performance.
“I share Theatre Within’s belief that music and the performing arts have a special power to bring people together and inspire us to make a positive difference,” Yoko Ono said in a statement about the event. “It’s beautiful that the tribute continues to have such a powerful impact in John’s memory.”
Proceeds from this year’s event go towards the John Lennon Real Love Project, a songwriting program for children and teens undergoing long-term medical treatment, which began last month at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx. Tickets are currently on sale at LennonTribute.org, and are selling for $65, $85, and $105. VIP packages are also on sale for $150 and $250.
