Hefe Wine (aka Maurice Williams) is bound and determined to make money off of Iggy Azalea's early recordings...one way or another. Wine is the ex and producer that is planning on releasing an EP of Azalea's earliest master recordings, a move that Azalea has filed a lawsuit against because she claims that the entire contents of her hard drive were illegally downloaded by Wine. He has taken it a step further, filing divorce documents in Texas against Azalea, claiming that back in 2008 the couple agreed to live as husband and wife in a common law marriage.
According to Wine, he and Azalea "agreed to be married, holding themselves out as man and wife and began residing together in the State of Texas on or about September, 2008." He claims that they didn't officially split until last year and the timeline is crucial because in Texas common law marriage is considered a legal union. If the court believes Wine's claims then that means that all of the music created during their union becomes community property and must be split 50/50.
Obviously there are millions at stake here and of course Azalea is claiming that she never once introduced herself as Wine's wife or entered into any sort of common law arrangement with him. She and her handlers see this as yet another money grab attempt on Wine's part and expect it to be handled appropriately in court. This situation just keeps getting messier. Do you think that Azalea ever really played house with Wine or is he simply trying to ride her coattails and profit off of her success? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
