Rhymesayers Rapper Grieves Is Now A Thoughtful Advice Columnist

Grieves and "old" don't really mix.

It's tough to believe that the baby-faced Seattle rapper is already 30, but perhaps he'll begin showing his age eventually. In a physical sense, that is.

He's already achieving wise-old-man status with an advice column for CityPages, a liberal-leaning Minneapolis publication that serves one of the country's bluest cities.

How did this happen? We're not sure, but Grieves — signed to Minnesota-based Rhymesayers Entertainment — offered this opening statement a few weeks ago:

"A lot of the times during interviews, people ask me questions they think fans want answers to, and sometimes that's not actually the case," he said. "I'm writing this column for you because let's be honest, nobody knows what questions you have better than you.

"The questions don't need to be about my music -- my music has always been a reflection of the things going on in my life, so I'd like to take this opportunity to talk about what's going on in yours."

The results have been zany (wildly out-of-context advice: "being a c--- to a c--- won't create any less c---ness between you two") but also thoughtful and serious.

When one man asks for help figuring out a sex addiction, Grieves responds: "There must be a part of you that wants to give up the meaningless one-night escapades or else why would you settle down? Maybe you thought that would help you change?"

But the feature typically strolls into more comedic areas.

"This person needs help," he replied to a woman asking about slashed tires. "There is only one true answer and that's METH, that's why."

It's not clear how long these columns will go on for, but Grieves is pumping them out while staying busy promoting his most recent album, Winter & the Wolves.
