The intersection of Saint James Place and Fulton Street in the Clinton Hill neighborhood might be getting a new name.
The neighborhood was home to the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. The petition is hoping to name the intersection, "Christopher Wallace Way," in honor of the rapper's birth name.
LeRoy McCarty launched the petition on the website Change.org. In it he states:
"Artistically during Christopher Wallace time in music he was considered the best at his craft, so much so, he was given the highest esteem by the leading Hip Hop magazine, The Source, as King of New York," the petition reads. "Coming from modest beginning the story of Christopher Wallace tells the story of a boy to a man accomplishing greatness, using words as his tools. The story Christopher Wallace continues to have a resounding influence on new generations although he passed away in 1997.
At press time, the petition had garnered 750 signatures, surpassing his initial goal of 500. Spin reported that there is a social network following devoted to the cause as well.
McCarty finishes his petition, saying, "Spread Love It's the Brooklyn Way."
We will city see how the city responds. What do you think of this idea? Is it about time Brooklyn officially honors the hip-hop legend?
