Sleigh Bells have announced the release of "Bitter Rivals," due to drop Oct. 8 on Mom + Pop. This is the band's third LP and the follow up to 2012's "Reign of Terror." In addition to the release announcement, Sleigh Bells unveiled the video for the album's title track.
The video starts off with a simple chord progression on guitar as singer Alexis Krauss leads a group of women wearing colored wigs in a choreographed in snapping along to the beat. Dogs howl in the background. It cuts to her wearing a leopard-print boxing robe with "AK" and "Bitter Rivals" stitched in.
The song doesn't stay cheery for long, though, as heavy distortion riffs accompany Krauss screaming, "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times. I had to kill the new in town" while head banging and punching the air like a hardcore fighter.
Guitarist and producer Derek Miller dons a LSU jersey while playing the tiger-striped guitar featured on the album's cover.
The lyrics seem to utilize a slew of clichés, such as "...best of times...worst of times," "...new sheriff in town," "no rhyme, no reason," "be not afraid;" however, they sort of work with the fight-prep vibe of the song.
The chorus transitions from aggressive to demonically sweet as Krauss croons, "You are my bitter rival, but I need you for survival."
The duo has scheduled a fall tour in support of the upcoming album. Pittsburgh is the first stop on their 30-date tour, which begins Oct. 4. Check out the tracklist for the album as well as the list of tour dates below.
