Courtney Love Claims 'Siamese Dream' Is Mostly About Her, Ruins Smashing Pumpkins for Everyone

If Courtney Love's goal was to ruin Smashing Pumpkins for everyone in a recent interview, she likely succeeded. The oft-harangued 1990s celebrity told BBC Radio 6 that almost all of Billy Corgan's songs on SP's classic 1993 album Siamese Dream are about her.

"There's one on Siamese Dream called "Spaceboy" — that's about his brother, but the rest are all pretty much about me," Love said.

Love and Corgan dated before she married Kurt Cobain, and their relationship has always been a point of tension between them. Some say the pair also dated shortly after Cobain's death.

But why is she bringing Siamese Dream up now? Well, the BBC asked her if she had a favorite Pumpkins song.

"Yeah, loads, because there are so many of them that are about me," she replied. "Siamese Dream, "Bodies," "Today" ... He stopped writing about me and then he stopped making hits."

Love also found time to date Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor around the same period, and she said another SP song was inspired by that fling.

"'Where Boys Fear to Tread' was about me and Trent and how mad [Corgan] was about that," she said.

Corgan and Love have rarely played nice in the media, but Corgan recently made it sound as if a truce could be struck in an interview with radio.com.

When speaking about '90s star power, he offered an olive branch to Love:

"You need the right personalities peaking at the right moment, and, with my generation, we had stars," Corgan said. "We had people who were legitimate stars that fostered movements that are still going. Even somebody like my on-again/off-again pal Courtney [Love], you have to give her credit for cracking open a door that nobody had ever really cracked open. And it stayed open ever since."
