Ariana Grande is basically the furtherst thing from an underdog in the music world right now. Her sophomore album My Everything debuted at No. 1 in the U.S. upon its release in August and she's had three singles, "Problem," "Break Free" and "Bang Bang," reach the top 10 on the Hot 100 this summer. But, soon she'll be an underdog once again... in a new animated film.
Today (Oct. 15), it was announced that Grande has joined the cast of the new movie Underdogs, according to TheWrap. The Weinstein Company project will be reworked and re-voiced for an American audience, with Grande playing the lead female role Laura. The "Love Me Harder" singer joins Nicholas Hoult (X-Men), Katie Holmes, Matthew Morrison, John Leguizamo as well as Saturday Night Live stars Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan in the cast.
The movie tells the story of a young boy and foosball player Jake, who beats the town "bully" Ace in a game. Only years later, Ace returns to the small town as a big star to turn the entire place into a giant sports complex. With the help of some foosball figures turned real, Jake and Laura have to save the day back from the evil Ace.
So, if you like Ariana Grande, foosball, animation and the dudes from SNL, it seems like these movie was just tailor made for you!
Underdogs will be Grande's first big jump into animation and into the big screen, though the 21-year-old is a seasoned actress. In addition to roles on Broadway as a child, Grande starred for four years as Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon series Victorious and Sam and Cat.
