Nelly Collaborates with Buzz the Bee for Honey Nut Cheerios Commercials 'Hey! Must Be the Honey'

Incase you haven't heard yet, St. Louis rapper Nelly has started collaborating with an unusual partner — a honey bee named Buzz. The two of them are featured on a Honey Nut Cheerios commercial in which Nelly sings a revamped version of his hit "Rid Wit Me," replacing "Hey! Must be the money" with "Hey! Must be the honey."

This might seem like a sign that the rapper has lost his cultural relevancy; however, in an interview with St. Louis publication The Riverfront Times, he says that this move is part of his "advancement."

"I just thought the opportunity would be real dope, man. I'm always looking to broaden out and make better paths," Nelly told them. "In hip-hop, sometimes we look at advancement as a negative thing, like taking away from who we are and what we do, and I just don't think that's the case."

Apparently, he is a big fan of the cereal because it was one of the brands he could afford during his childhood. He even eats it while recording in the studio.

He told RFT that he was excited to work with director Hype Williams, who has worked on videos for TLC, Jay-Z, 2Pac, Coldplay and Kanye West. "People love [the commercials]," Nelly said. "They understand the growth and advancement -- getting the chance to be in business with a blue chip company like General Mills, and that don't happen very often."

The lyrics for the one of the new versions are as follows (each commercial appears to use different verses): "If you wanna go away and fly with me. So does the bee on your TV. Oh how did I get this way? Hey! Must be the honey. There's a party going on in your cereal bowl. These O's will lower your cholesterol. Oh why does it taste so great? Hey! Must be the honey!"

Check out the commercials below, and let us know what you think. Is Nelly just embarrassing himself, or is he just taking advantage of a business opportunity like any smart celebrity would?
