Less than 24 hours ago we were reporting to you about a mysterious 7" record that came packaged up with Sleater-Kinney's new discography-spanning collection, Start Together. The record, which featured a new song later identified as "Bury Our Friends," was also marked with a date: 1/20/15. It looks like we don't have to wait for that date to get the big announcement: he band formally announced October 20 that it would be releasing a new album on the aforementioned date, and the band would be going on a tour to boot.
The record will be called No Cities to Love, which some had hinted might be the name of the song packaged with Start Together. It was cut by the band secretly in San Francisco, Portland and Seattle earlier this year and will be released on Sub Pop during January. John Goodmanson, the producer for the band's last four albums, also handled production here.
Fans have waited with bated breath for a formal announcement of a comeback. After all, the band played a set at Coachella during 2012 and made a guest appearance onstage with Pearl Jam during a 2013 concert. Now that wait has paid off...but hopefully you'll be near one of the few cities that will host dates on the American leg. The tour will also play relatively small venues, such as Terminal 5 in New York, which will sell out fast.
