Russian Bass Ildar Abdrazakov Stars in Mozart's 'Le Nozze di Figaro' Under James Levine at Metropolitan Opera, Borodin's 'Prince Igor' Opening October 22

In the case of world-renowned, Russian-born bass Ildar Abdrazakov, 37, Italian opera has made him a premiere singer in the operatic world. A native of Ufa, capital of the Russian republic of Bashkortostan, Ildar now has taken his voice to a new level, and he will perform in the Metropolitan Opera's production of Prince Igor, to open Oct. 22.

Abdrazakov has been on the rise to prominence ever since his role as the brooding prince in the Metropolitan Opera's production of Borodin's Prince Igor. While a Russian native, it was not until he struck a chord in the West did he perform Russian roles.

For the Met's upcoming season, Ildar will be featured in a production of Le Nozze di Figaro, directed by Richard Eyre. Since his debut role as Figaro at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1998, the singer has sung the part of Mozart's servant more than a hundred times.
