Representatives for Taylor Swift broke the news to E! that the country songstress is not in talks to appear on Jennifer Lopez's 2014 album, despite "confirmed" rumors that had been reported several days ago. A source told Us Weekly that "both of them are fans of each other and excited to work together."
It's understandable to think that a T-Swift/J-Lo collabo was coming, especially after the pop star made an appearance at Swift's Los Angeles show at the end of August. The country star had been bringing out guests throughout the tour, but Lopez's appearance generated the most headlines. Swift is one of the most streamlined of country musicians, so her fan base didn't mind too much when Lopez performed the very urban "Jenny From The Block."
Don't get too downhearted yet, Swift and Lopez fans. It's still a long way until 2014 and it doesn't take much to sneak into a recording studio between now and then, even for two of the world's most popular performers. After all, no one knew about Lopez's performance with Swift until she showed up onstage.
Music Times can think of three good reasons why a collaboration will happen between the two:
1) Lopez is going to be reappearing as a judge on "American Idol." The show needs a ratings boost, and a guest appearance by Swift to perform with host Lopez is a totally realistic PR dream.
2) Lopez fans will buy the single because they're Lopez fans, duh. Swift fans will buy any single that she appears on, whether it be Lopez or Napalm Death. It's sales gold.
3) More incidentally, the pair share a few things in common. Such as, they both have a slew of famous ex-boyfriends/husbands. In Lopez's defense, she tends to leave her exes out of her hits.
