Father John Misty released a music video today for his single "I'm Writing A Novel," off his latest album, "Fear Fun."
It begins subtly with Josh Tillman, the former drummer for Fleet Foxes, walking toward a building and lighting up a cigarette. He turns around an tells the camera, "This is where I fell over the other night."
The song starts, and Tillman is driving in his car, lighting another cig. The video follows his life on the road, which begins with him buying a hearse.
"The thing about a beautiful woman driving a hearse," he says. "There is a larger metaphor there somewhere."
In the next scene, he's inside playing with a globe and spontaneously pointing out his next destination. He opens a box that contains a vinyl record, which he plays for the woman in the room with him.
Throughout the video, he dances flamboyantly through the dining room of a cruise ship, shoots guns at a shooting range, dresses up in a colonial outfit, walks along a beach, takes a picture with Santa, drinks booze and smokes more cigarettes in between hazy clips of his concert footage. Honestly, life on the road with this guy looks like a lot of fun. His fall tour begins Oct. 3 in San Francisco.
Random Side Note: The Father John Misty website is pretty hilarious. For example, instead of a tab saying "Tour Dates," his says, "I'm coming to your town so you can film me on your iPhone!" If you're a fan, definitely check out all his site's snarky features.
