It has been seven years since Elton John has released a solo studio album (his last solo effort was 2006's "The Captain and the Kid"), and fans have been eager to hear his new material.
Yesterday, they got what they wanted. John leaked his upcoming album, "The Diving Board," almost two weeks early through a stream on Amazon.com.
The 19-track effort is set for official release on Sept. 24.
"It's got everything I love about American music," John told Rolling Stone in February. "Gospel, soul country."
According to the Rolling Stone article, most of the album was recorded in 2012 with spurts of recording time throughout early 2013. He spent a total of five days in the studio, but he took the time to make sure the record was "Eltonized."
John told Rolling Stone that this album is his most piano-focused effort.
"It's the most adult record I can make at my age," he told them. "I'm just heading toward being 80 years old and playing at the Holiday Inn."
John will headline iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas Sept. 20 and 21. He is also slated to perform a tribute to Liberace at the 65th annual Emmys on Sept. 22.
