Jim Carrey dressed up in a skintight dancing outfit and performed the music video routine from Sia's "Chandelier" on Saturday Night Live last night, Oct. 25. The whole skit is ridiculously long and awkwardly executed, but there is also an Iggy Azalea appearance. So there is that. If you need any more convincing to click "play," it is probably not going to happen.
Saturday night was Carrey's third hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live, while Azalea performed on the show for the first time.
The pair was recently in New York City to film promo spots for the episode, and as usual, Carrey stole the show with his physical comedy.
Carrey previously hosted with musical guest The Black Keys in 2011 and made his debut with help from Soundgarden in 1996 — is there a more fitting "mid-'90s" combo?
Let's take a moment to appreciate the SNL musical sked in 1995-96. That season included performances from Alanis Morissette — just before the height of her powers — Foo Fighters, Silverchair, Bush, Tori Amos, Coolio, Tupac, Everclear, Gin Blossoms, Rage Against the Machine — they got kicked off the set for burning the American flag — Dave Matthews Band and, in the season finale, Chris Cornell and his 'Garden boys.
What a time capsule!
SNL is working on another classic lineup of stars this season for its 40th anniversary, and will show off perhaps its most intriguing combo of the season — Chris Rock and Prince — next weekend.
Carrey and Azalea will hold down the fort for now. The Australian pop star recently revealed a new track — "Iggy SZN" — that our own Joey DeGroot reviewed:
"Keeping up with the minimalist template set with 'Fancy,' "Iggy SZN" features a handclap-heavy beat, a synth line that sounds like a zipper and not much else. Iggy addresses her haters — and she has plenty — telling them, 'If I told you what I'm worth, you would throw up / So have my money on time before I show up.'
"It's not quite as catchy as 'Fancy,' but it is still a lot of fun."
