Anthony Geary Returning to 'General Hospital' During November Sweeps

Anthony Geary has portrayed Luke Spencer on General Hospital since 1978. Yes, the actor loves to come and go from the show, and he is known to take extended yearly vacations, but generally fans of the show know that eventually Geary will return to the canvas of Port Charles. And he will return during November sweeps.

Earlier this year, he took time off and later admitted that after postponing it for too long, back surgery was a necessity. Many believed Geary's time on General Hospital was inevitably over and the actor popped up last summer in a somewhat reassuring interview with TV Guide, explaining:

"I had a back operation. It's been a challenging year. I knew for a while that I had to have this surgery, but I love my story on GH and didn't want to walk away from it, so I delayed the operation a bit. I had two operations, actually — one on April 21 and another April 23 — thinking that after two weeks I'd be able to fly home to Amsterdam.

"As it turned out, it took me two weeks before I was even walking. I decided to take six months off the show because I was told it would be an arduous recovery. I need to walk 2 to 3 miles a day to get my strength back and regenerate the nerves damaged during the operation. But the surgery was a success and I'm a fast healer."

While Geary may not have healed exactly as fast as he would have liked, it has been confirmed that he is back in action on GH and his episodes will begin airing just in time for November sweeps. An exact first air date has yet to be confirmed, but soap fans are thrilled just to hear that the actor will be returning to the ABC lot that he has called home for more than three decades.

What do you think the writers have in store for Luke Spencer now? Better yet, will answers be coming about "Fluke" in terms of who he really is and why he has popped up in Port Charles? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
