Taylor Swift has been hitting the promotional circuit hard this week following the release of her new album, 1989. Ellen had her on her show yesterday for an entire hour dedicated to the pop star. Swift talked to her about the new album, her Voice co-workers' weaknesses, her deepest fears, and her cat. Afterward, she performed "Shake It Off" and "Out of the Woods."
On her irrational fear of sea urchins:
"They're like a grenade waiting to completely injure you to the point where...okay, you can't see a sea urchin if you're in the Carribean you're like, 'This water's so beautiful. It's amazing!' and you're walking, it's clear water, you can't see a sea urchin's right there. You step on one and it has barbs and it goes into whatever it touches and then you have to go to the emergency room and it has to be surgically removed. You could lose your foot. You could lose your hand. You could lose your hand trying to get it off your foot. I don't like sea urchins."
On her irrational fear of being framed for a crime:
"So many people would frame me. They can fame you for any crime that you could go to jail for. Look at me; I wouldn't survive in jail. I think it comes from the fact that I could open up my phone, I could look at my phone and see any headline written about me at any time, and it could be the most ridiculously untrue thing, and so I think the dream and the nightmare of being framed comes from like I could do nothing wrong, I could sit in my house with the cats all day and somehow there could be an article about me buying a house in a place I've never been or dating a guy I've never met. But then you take it a step further, and in nightmare world it's being framed for murder."
On her new cat, Detective Olivia Benson:
"So I got a new cat. Her name is Detective Olivia Benson. She was named after my favorite character on Law & Order SVU. But it's really confusing for me because since I named the cat Detective Olivia Benson, she's since been promoted on the show to sergeant. It's very confusing for the cat and for me. I actually call her a name that doesn't really make any sense but her name in the house is Dibbles because it suits her personality more. She's like a scrappy little cat."
On her Voice co-worker Adam Levine:
"If you sing songs from Rent you can actually render Adam Levine helpless on the floor. He can't even run away, he's so weak."
She also talked about her new album, her photo shoot in Rolling Stone, and her "Secret Sessions" with fans then did a "Kitty Corner" segment with Ellen.
