Back in June, Top Dawg Entertainment boss Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith announced that Jay Rock would be the next on the label to release an album. Rock released the album's first single "Parental Advisory" earlier this month and is now back with his second single "Pay For It" with help from Black Hippy labelmate Kendrick Lamar and Canadian singer Chantal.
Sticking with his street style flow, Rock raps over a booming piano, "I come from the slums / We come for the funds / Like run it, under the sun / Where n***as livin' they life blunted / Countin' the ones / But truthfully nothin' like hundreds."
Lamar hops in on the second verse with rapid-fire fury (I tell 'em all hail King Kendrick/ Resurrecting my vengeance / Been dissecting your motormouth until I break down the engine / This ain't no warning shot / This is a relevant henchman / See my opponent then cease your existence") then takes over on the bridge.
"When the sun goes down, I scream loud and sleep when I die," K. Dot sings. "But I will never die; my legacy is alive."
Rock is expected to drop his album by the end of the year. Lamar is also slated for a sophomore release in 2014.
Last year Lamar told MTV that Rock, out of any other rapper, is the one who keeps him on his toes.
"Rock always been big brother, Rock always had that 'urrgh.' So when we got on the mic with Rock, you already know what time it is," he told them. "You gotta do what you gotta do, because he's gonna smash it, and I'm glad that the world is finally recognizing it because he is a problem for sure."
In September Tech N9ne revealed that Rock had left his Strange Music imprint and is now exclusively signed to TDE.
