Metallica to Perform on 'Craig Ferguson' for Weeklong Residency

Seeing as how the Foo Fighters’s recent weeklong residency on The Late Show with David Letterman was a success, heavy metal legends Metallica will be following suit on another CBS talk show. Starting Nov. 17, Metallica will be performing for five nights straight on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in support of the 10th anniversary reissue of their documentary Some Kind of Monster.

“What better way to celebrate Craig’s awesome tenure at CBS than to come and shake the rafters for a whole week,” drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone. “Nothing to sell, nothing to promote — except a reissue DVD — ... purely hanging at Craig’s personal request. Bring it!”

In addition to the live performances, Metallica will also be interviewed by Ferguson Nov. 17, the first night of their residency.

Metallica’s weeklong residency comes toward the end of Ferguson’s run at CBS, as the Scottish comedian will be stepping down as host of The Late Late Show at some point in December. Ferguson took over the show in 2005, and keeping with the theme of U.K. comedians hosting the show, will be replaced by British comedian James Corden.

Though Metallica has not yet announced the release of a new album — their last was 2008’s Death Magnetic — they will be releasing a new song titled “Lord of Summer” on Black Friday, Nov. 28, as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday event. They will also be releasing live recordings of all 27 concerts they have performed in 2014 in the boxset Live Metallica: By Request 2014.
