Social media has led to a new era, one where all of our personal information can be gathered and quantified to tell us things we already know or to create theories about listeners that are totally misguided (as was the case in the study done estimating how intelligent a listener was based on the music they enjoyed). We admit it's still a tad interesting to look at Facebook's chart demonstrating what performers are preferred on the left versus those on the right (as reported by Digital Music News).
Let's start with the left. According to Facebook's findings, The Beatles are about as Democratic as it gets. It's interesting to note that the band was even more adored by lefties than John Lennon, whom we've always imagined to be the most left-leaning of the band's members. That doesn't mean Republicans prefer the Rolling Stones however; that band also lands fairly far left. Note of course that Facebook doesn't have every band on the chart, as obviously bands like Rage Against The Machine or the Dead Kennedys would probably stretch well beyond that threshold. All hip-hop acts appear on the left but not as far as you might think.
The right is a tad more predictable. George Strait, one of the most straight-shooting country musicians of all time, comes out as the favorite for Republicans. That being said, he's far from being the most conservative member of the genre. The right is peppered with country stars (even middle ground candidates like Carrie Underwood) although Johnny Cash is actually preferred on the left (just barely). Interesting to note that Ted Nugent, while strongly preferred on the right, still comes in behind Strait.
Reports show our nation is as partisan as ever. What acts can we use to fix that? The chart shows that Taylor Swift and AC/DC are evenly split, but Metallica comes closest to 50/50. You know what that band says: Kill 'Em All.
