Longevity is something that all bands strive for, but very few attain. Rush has had that for over four decades, releasing some of the noted rock 'n roll music of the 20th century. Now the band has unearthed some rare, never before seen footage of them playing at St. Catharine's, a secondary school in Ontario.
Premiered by Radio.com, the footage takes us back 1974 with Rush performing for a bunch of secondary school students, who are somehow still sitting in their seats while Rush is ripping it up in front of them. The band is performing an old track, "I've Been Runnin,'" that is an early, forgotten addition to the Rush discography. It is to be part of the R40 box set, tabbed for release in five days on Nov. 11, with a few other unreleased tracks found deep in the Rush back catalog.
The catalog will cover their entire career while also dusting off some old videos and tracks that will reignite some nostalgia for Rush fans. The box set will also include previously released live concert DVDs, Rush In Rio, R30, Snakes & Arrows Live, Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland and Clockwork Angels Tour (via Ultimate Classic Rock). The "I've Been Runnin'" clip features the original band drummer, John Rutsey, offering a rare glimpse at the band pre-Peart. Neil Peart has become a cult icon in the drumming world.
The trio is set to go on tour next year to honor 40 years of Neil Peart being in the band and will hopefully go into the studio as well to record another album. Their last full-length studio effort was Clockwork Angels in 2012.
Those kids had themselves a lucky day seeing Rush in their school auditorium. They probably had no idea how legendary that band was about to become when they left that school.
