Tennessee songstress Ashley Monroe hit the stage at the CMAs with vet Blake Shelton to perform a stunning rendition of their duet "Lonely Tonight."
Shelton showed off his vocal range mostly during the chorus, harmonizing easily with Monroe's vocals. As far as male-female performances for the awards show, the pair takes the cake. Although, the steamy display, with Shelton singing right into Monroe's eyes, may have been a little much for Miranda Lambert, who's married to the "Neon Light" singer. Then again, it's all in the name of showmanship. Check it out below.
The song is the off of Shelton's most recent release, Bringing Back the Sunshine. The album, which was released at the end of September, went straight to number one on the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums charts.
"After a while, as a country singer, I gotta get back to singing about getting drunk," Shelton told Rolling Stone Country back in August about his perspective on the album. "Because there's people out there — and I've been one of them — that have had their heart broken, or they've had a tough day at work, or they get stabbed in the back."
Shelton returned to the stage to take the Make Vocalist of the Year honor.
Lambert was in a group called Pistol Annies with Monroe previously. The trio, which also featured Angaleena Presley, formed in 2011 and have two studio albums to their credit — Hell on Heels and Annie Up. Monroe and Lambert's successful solo careers caused the band to go on hiatus last year, and Presley told Fox News that the group "just had to take a little break but never say never."
