Instead of a traditional burial, James Brown was mummified following his death in 2006 and is still above ground, according to the Godfather of Soul's former chauffeur.
"He's been dead since 2006 but he still hasn't been buried - he's been at his daughter's house," William Murrell told The Guardian recently. "They muminized [sic] his body so he would never rot, at $140,000 cost. Why? When you got almost 20 kids and six wives it's hard to get you in the ground."
Brown was actually only married three times and had nine children. In 2010, NME notes, one of his reported love children, LaRhonda Pettit, said that Brown's body had been stolen from a crypt so that an autopsy could not be done. A funeral director and one of the singer's other offspring, Deanna Brown Thomas, denied Pettit's claims.
Murrell currently has a book of sayings and quotes available titled, 365 Things That Make You Go Hmmm - Wisdom and Wit by William. He's also hoping to pen a autobiography, having driven the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, Chris Rock and Don King around. Murrell then hopes for a movie, with Jamie Foxx in the starring role.
"James Brown told me I need to be in Hollywood 'cause when I drove I always wore a black suit, a white shirt and a black tie - and white gloves, like Michael Jackson," he added.
Murrell said he even drove the King of Pop to Brown's funeral as well, adding that Jackson spent nearly an hour with the body.
"He wanted to spend some time with the godfather of soul 'cause he was his mentor," he explained.
