Pink Floyd: David Gilmour
The tune was written by Gilmour's wife, Polly Sampson, about the history of the band, Rolling Stone noted.
"Her words really spoke to something about the band," Gilmour said, "certainly when it came to Rick [Wright] and myself. We speak better with our musical instruments."
A man is rowing a boat across the sky in the video below before footage of Floyd members, past and present, appear. Deceased keyboardist Richard Wright, who died in 2008, can be seen in some archival film seemingly from sessions for The Division Bell.
Gilmour plays a masterful guitar solo over scenes shot in front of the Aral Sea, a body of water that has shrunk considerably over the years. It serves as a final goodbye to the band, saluting the present while honoring what was.
The Endless River came out today, Nov. 10, and Gilmour, for one, is surprised by the response it has been getting by fans. He spoke with BBC News about how the record came together.
"It was '93 and we were going to make The Division Bell album. We wanted to get to know each other again a little bit," he said. "We thought we'd start off by playing together in a room, improvising ... just having fun."
The guitarist has been quite vocal about Pink Floyd coming to an end with its 15th studio album.
"I'm an older person. I'm really enjoying my life. I'm really enjoying the music that I am making, and there's no room for Pink Floyd," he told RS.
