Although you might've heard the album for free already after it leaked last week, you can now stream Drake's new effort "Nothing Was The Same" for free on Spotify. It is also available in stores today via OVO Sound/Young Money/Republic.
Yesterday, Drake sat down with Ryan Seacrest after his iHeartRadio Music Festival performance to talk about the album. Seacrest rattles off some stats about Drake's history on the Billboard charts - he has the most No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart.
Drake says it's not really about the numbers for him. "It's more about the music and the reaction. I'm 26. I'm really out here with the kids. So it's like, I just want to make sure that they love it," he said. "I want to make sure it's a soundtrack to, you know, a portion of their life. I'm not too caught up with like, 'Is this my best album?' or 'Is it going to sell?'... I always say, 'My best album is my next album.'"
He goes on to explain that he made a conscious effort for "Nothing Was The Same" to be a rap album, despite "Hold On, We're Going Home" being sort of an R&B hit. "I wanted to make something...timeless, no swearing for once," he told Seacrest. "'Hold On, We're Going Home' is a glimpse of where I want to take things maybe next album or the album after that."
Seacrest asked Drake to explain the album's title. "I think it's just the surreal evolution of life in general, but specifically my life," he said. "It's just kind of realizing that, man, 26 years, there's been so much going on, you know — family, friends, love, money, fame."
