Drake just premiered the video for "Hold On, We're Going Home" off his album, "Nothing Was The Same," which officially dropped today. He told Ryan Seacrest in an interview yesterday that he envisioned "Hold On, We're Going Home" as something couples would dance to at their weddings, but you wouldn't think so from his video.
The Miami Vice-inspired video begins inside a Miami nightclub lounge back in 1985, where Drake and his crew are celebrating. It would appear that Drake's character is the Kingpin of a drug (probably cocaine, it being the '80s in Miami and all) operation. A$AP Rocky starts off the clip with a monologue congratulating the group on how far they've come in three years.
"It takes a lot of balls and a lot of heart," A$AP says. "And I just want to let ya'll know, I love y'all, and I wish I wasn't so damn ugly."
They cheers one another, and the video pans out to a mansion where a young woman is getting ready in front of a mirror. A stranger comes into the house and kidnaps her, holding her hostage from Drake.
Drake gets a startling phone call from the woman, and goes to save her. Meanwhile, we learn that Drake has taken something (money? drugs?) from someone powerful, and the kidnapper has now, in turn, "taken what is his."
The music starts as Drake and company load up on weapons for the rescue mission. Drake walks through his home and has flashbacks of moments with his lover.
Clad in balaclavas, they fire at the "bad guys" in a dramatic shootout. The rest of the video is basically a Scarface-esque montage of violence and romance. In the end, he saves the girl.
