Yesterday (Nov. 10), Taylor Swift released the official music video for her new 1989 single "Blank Space," which finds her in an expansive, gaudy mansion as she meets, falls in love with, goes crazy and breaks up with a handsome man all in one day. Now Swifties can immerse themselves in the music video all thanks to a new app. Today (Nov. 11), American Express released the Unstaged Taylor Swift app, which allows fans to navigate the "Blank Space" music video's world.
The Unstaged Taylor Swift app is half video game, half music video. Fans who download the app enter in to the very mansion where "Blank Space" takes place, right as Swift and her man of the minute have their day of love and anger.
The immersive experience gives fans dozens of options: you can follow Swift and her man around the mansion, finding new angles and layers to the original music video or you can explore the home on your own. Though the music video features only Swift and "Sean," the app includes three new characters: a gardener, a butler and an artist. All three of the secondary characters have their own storylines, most amusingly the butler who seems to be in love with the insane version of Swift himself.
The part of the app that plays more like a game is the quest to find all the hidden Easter egg objects. In total, 41 little jokes and nods to Swift's fans are laid throughout the mansion. There's a fuzzy "Track 3" television, a photograph of Swift's beloved cat Olivia Benson and plenty of faux tabloids that poke fun of Swift's real-life "long list of ex-lovers."
The "Blank Space" Unstaged Taylor Swift app is available to download now and the music video is also out.
