Ariana Grande: Bang Bang
According to Hits Daily Double, the "Bang Bang" singers will rework and cover the song for a 20th anniversary project from the song's original producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. The new "The Boy is Mine" collaboration will seemingly be a part of a new compilation album that will feature "originals as well as reimagined hits."
The reimagined version will be released roughly 17 years after the original "The Boy is Mine" hit the charts. The Brandy/Monica version, which featured the two pop megastars fighting over a no-good man peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the best-selling single of 1998.
No word on whether or not Grande and J can live up to the hype.
Grande and J won't be the only one's recreating a classic hit for Darkchild's 20th anniversary project, which the producer teased as "very special." He's also channeled 2014's biggest and best crooner to take on one of the biggest divas of all time... Whitney Houston.
"Sam is doing 'It's Not Right It's Okay' by Whitney Houston, which Sam told me was the song that made him want to sing. When I asked him if he'd be a part of this project he was like, 'No one else can do that song but me!'" Darkchild said. "Sam's the truth."
The project is expected to be released next year.
