A last minute addition to the newfound trend of reforming shoegaze bands: While 2013 was notable for the first My Bloody Valentine album in more than 20 years, 2014 can be noted as the year when British shoegazers Ride announced they'd be getting back together (although the tour dates themselves won't occur until 2015), according to Pitchfork.
The band has announced, thus far, a series of nine gigs for next year, running from May to June. Seven of the appearances will be on the home continent of Europe but the group will stop by North America for a Toronto and New York City show as well. Rumors of a reformation got rolling when posters for the group in Spain suggested a gig at the Primavera Sound Festival.
Unlike Bloody Valentine, Ride's vocalist Mark Gardener says there are no plans for the band to record any new music, citing the group's continuing relevance to music fans as the reason for the reformation.
"People bought our records first time round," he said. "But our music has grown in significance since we've been away...We want to give the people what they want. We'd be idiots to go out and play a new album, but that's not to say we wouldn't make new music."
Alright, so there's at least a chance.
Ride originally broke up during 1996 after releasing four albums across eight years. The group briefly got back together for a documentary and a greatest hits album release during 2001.
