Digital Download Roundup: Lorde Remains Chart Royalty, Drake Debuts New Single 'All Me,' Sales Struggle Overall

Folks, if you're looking for a lot of moving and shaking in the Digital Downloads charts, you may be out of luck: There wasn't much.

THINGS THAT WERE THE EXACT SAME

The top three songs on the chart were the exact same, for one. Lorde topped the chart with hit single "Royals" for the second straight week, no doubt thanks to the debut of her album Pure Heroine on September 27. Katy Perry held strong at no. 2 with "Roar," one of the year's biggest-selling singles, and Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball" continued to sell, sticking in the no. 3 spot.

THINGS THAT MOVED UP

Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" jumped from no. 5 to no. 4, and Eminem, who looked like he was on the way out last week, rebounded from no. 9 up to no. 6 with "Berzerk." Jay Z also noted that hip-hop was lagging on last week's charts, and somehow got his own "Holy Grail" to jump from no. 10 to no. 7. Lady Gaga also made a one-spot jump, with "Applause" improving from no. 7 to no. 6. Lana Del Rey reemerged after a brief hiatus off of the list, with her "Summertime Sadness" coming back from no. 13 to the final spot in the Top 10.

THINGS THAT DROPPED DOWN

Britney Spears took the biggest hit this week, with her new single "Work Bitch!" getting bumped off of the Top 10. Billboard hasn't released numbers outside of the Top 10 yet to indicate how far it fell, but it was at least seven spots. Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" also fell four spots, but as sharp reader pointed out last week, that song is a promotional track, and not a single. Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home" also fell from the Top 10...

WHAT'S NEW

...but he quickly replaced it with the new single "All Me," which fell into the no. 9 spot with 101,000 downloads during its debut week. Look for this one to move up soon.

THE BAD NEWS

Although plenty of albums moved up from last week's positions in the charts, that doesn't mean their sales were higher. In fact, every song in the Top 10 this week (aside from "All Me") saw a decrease in number of downloads from last week. "All Me" wasn't available for downloads for last week's charts, so it's "rise" in sales doesn't exactly count.
