Spotify Launches 'Follow' Button For Users and Artists

By now most sites (ours included) have buttons that allow you to follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. Yesterday, Spotify launched a button of its own that allows users to embed in their websites.

Spotify button generator allows Spotify users to create a button for a band, for themselves or for any other Spotify user. So if you want people to start following your best friend — there's a follow button for that. If you want people to check out this up-and-coming band you like — there's a follow button for that. If you think you have good taste in music and want people to check out what you're listening to —there's a follow button for that.

"The new Spotify Follow Button makes it easier than ever to connect with your favourite artists, magazines and friends - all with a simple click of a button," Spotify's announcement said. "You'll start seeing Spotify Follow Buttons all over the web. By clicking Follow, you'll get seamless and relevant updates, like your favourite artist's latest album, or the pre-party playlist from your favourite music magazine. Add Spotify Follow buttons to your pages and make it easy for your web visitors to follow you, your favourite artists, or any Spotify profile. Great for artists who want to build a fan base, bloggers who want to raise their Spotify profiles, and music lovers who just want to share their tastes!"

According to BillboardBiz, Spotify originally had no intention of building its own social network. But about a year ago the company changed its mind and began adding social features to the site. Spotify currently has a new "Message and Browse" feature that allows users to comment on songs and start conversations around music.

What do you think of the new social feature? Let us know in the comments section below!
