Yoko Ono and her Plastic Ono Band joined forces with the Flaming Lips last night on Late Show With David Letterman. The team performed "Cheshire Cat Cry" off Take Me to the Land of Hell. Ono shouted, "Stop the violence. Stop all wars!" intermittently between bouts of maniacal laughter.
Wayne Coyne sat on the ground next to the 80-year-old Ono and held up a megaphone and shakers. He began the set covered up in a black sheet but revealed himself midway though the song. The song truly did give off the feel of being taken away to "the land of hell."
This is not the first time the Lips and Ono have collaborated. In 2011 they recorded a Christmas single together, played a two-night New Years Eve run in Oklahoma City and made a joint four-track EP together. Ono was also featured on the Lips' 2012 collaboration album, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends.
David Letterman ended the segment appropriately saying sarcastically, "It's fun when you leave the theater humming the music from the show."
