Six-time GRAMMY winner John Mayer stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to talk about his tour and most recent album, Paradise Valley.
Before his performance, Mayer sat down with Kimmel to discuss his recent throat surgery that required a botox injection. He also mentioned what its like to perform in the modern age of Smartphones and how people are "winning" Instagram.
"It's weird. We just got back from South America, and it was like 35,000 people going crazy — shoulder to shoulder going crazy," Mayer Said. "Then we came back into the States and it was like we played the same show and people aren't going crazy. And I think to myself I'm not playing a very good show, and I look out and they are going crazy for me but not to me. They are applauding into the phone. So what I do now is I finish the show and I searched myself on Instagram to see how people would have cheered had they not had their phone out."
He finished up the interviewing explaining how he can finish the New York Times' Monday crossword puzzle in less than ten minutes as well as what it was like to collaborate with Frank Ocean and Katy Perry.
He took the stage to perform "Wild Fire." Dressed in a jean shirt and corduroys with an interesting beaded necklace. Mayer looked like he was having fun as he played at the R&B-tinged folk-rock track. During the choruses, he instructed the audience to clap along.
He then played the folk ballad "Dear Marie" as the credits rolled on the show.
