Charli XCX is prepping the release of her upcoming sophomore album Sucker. In anticipation, a new song has surfaced called "Breaking Up." The punk-inspired track follows the style of her recently released singles "Gold Coins" and "London Queen" but has the big poppy chorus we've come to expect after songs like "Boom Clap" and "Break the Rules." The best part is her line, "You say you love me, okay let's rock."
She brings the attitude with lines such as, "You have an ugly tattoo and f**king cheap perfume" and "Hey your friends think your fugly, too."
Charli recently spoke with Radio.com about the concept of the album and the meaning behind its name.
"I think firstly, the name is like a 'told you so' to all the people who doubted me and thought I was a bad songwriter," she told them. "It's also my cynical view on some of the people in the music industry and how they're so weird and caught up in such bizarre, tiny things. I guess it's also a comment on me, because even though I feel like I'm critiquing the pop circus, I'm also very aware that I'm part of that now. ...So, three meanings, one title."
Sucker is due out Dec. 16 on Asylum/Atlantic/Neon Gold. It is the follow up to 2013's True Romance.
Last night the UK crooner wowed audiences at the American Music Awards with performances of "Boom Clap" and "Break the Rules." Her song with Iggy Azalea, "Fancy," was up for Single Of The Year but lost out to Katy Perry's "Dark Horse."
