The good news for those based in New York is that UK music publications have all released their biggest stories for the day by the time we wake up, giving us something to do as soon as we get to the office, thanks to a five-hour time difference. As coincidence would have it, NME also released its "best of" 2014 lists more than a month ahead of Christmas (which, unfortunately, may have hurt Britain's own One Direction down the stretch). St. Vincent took the top prize for Album of The Year with her self-titled release. Future Islands earned Track of The Year for "Seasons (Waiting On You)."
St. Vincent marks the first since 2008 that a performer from outside of the UK commonwealth has taken home the prize for best album (we counted Australia's Tame Impala as part of the commonwealth). The album featured the tracks "Digital Witness" and "Prince Johnny," which both also appeared on the Top 50 singles list for the year.
The British publication listed all of its Top 50 tracks online (you can check out the Top 10 below), while the full list of best albums will be released November 27. You can expect two of the tracks listed below to also appear on a certain correspondent's end-of-year playlist.
10) "Chambers of Reflection" by Mac DeMarco
09) "Little Monster" by Royal Blood
08) "Zombie" by Jamie T
07) "Digital Witness" by St. Vincent
06) "Eez-Eh" by Kasabian
05) "Blockbuster Night Pt. 1" by Run The Jewels
04) "Red Eyes" by The War On Drugs
03) "Touch The Leather" by Fat White Family
02) "Can't Do Without You" by Caribou
01) "Seasons (Waiting On You)" by Future Islands
