Iggy Azalea: American Music Awards
As always, The Roots elevate the musical guest to new heights, and Azalea is up for the challenge. It turns out to be a pretty steamy performance, at least for NBC's standards. Check it out below, via Consequence of Sound.
"Beg for It," a collaboration with MØ, dropped in October. "The most remarkable thing about 'Beg For It' is just how clear it is that the song's hook/chorus was penned by Azalea's frequent collaborator Charli XCX, Music TImes wrote about the song. "MØ's sassy hook follows a very similar vocal pattern to 'Fancy,' and the lyrics share boastful themes."
The New Classic came out in April, peaking at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and number one on the rap and hip-hop lists. Despite being a commercial success, reviews of the album were mixed.
"Iggy swaggers through her first LP with all the zero-fucks-given zest of the Nineties baby she is, trumpeting her story on underdog anthems like 'Work' and 'Don't Need Y'all,'" Rolling Stone wrote. "Savvier still, she dresses them up in the kind of shamelessly poppy hooks that make Top 40 programmers giggle in delight and "real hip-hop" heads shake theirs sadly."
