If you think that Indio Valley, CA. might not fit them theme for one of the year's biggest country music festivals, you might be right. But then again, it'd be wrong of us to deny country musicians access to the same Los Angeles-area weather that's inspired just about every other genre we know of. The Stagecoach Festival just announced its lineup for April 2014, and here's a quick summation of the acts that caught Music Times' eye:
APRIL 25
With no offense to the day's headliner, Eric Church, the act for everyone to catch if you haven't seen her before is Loretta Lynn. Lynn represents perhaps, if not the biggest name in the history of female country music, at least one of the most influential. The Coal Miner's daughter will have just turned 82 y.o. when she performs at Stagecoach, and fans should make sure to see her. Church will have just released a new album, Caught In The Act, at the tail end of 2013 and should be ready to rock as well.
APRIL 26
Jason Aldean, Hunter Hayes and Tyler Farr are among the acts that make Saturday the weekend's most headlined, but three acts in the middle are worth some attention. Ashley Monroe is one of the most acclaimed performers of 2013, drawing raves for both her solo work and her role in country-gal-supergroup the Pistol Annies. Folks who need a break from the country vibe can also dabble on Saturday: Trampled by Turtles is a great folk/bluegrass group (as well as having the festival's best band name), and Don McClean will probably indulge the crowd in his famous "American Pie."
APRIL 27
Luke Bryan has been dominating the country charts throughout 2013 with his now-platinum album Crash My Party, and we hear he's a pretty lively live act as well. To go along with Loretta Lynn, Duane Eddy will be another legendary performer worth checking out. Eddy was one of the pioneers of the twangy guitar tone preferred by so many country guitarists over the years, and you can bet he'll be running with the style on Sunday.
