Lil Wayne really likes Lil Wayne. The "Let the Beat Build" rapper is no stranger to self praise - he's dubbed himself the "best rapper alive" on numerous tracks. In advance of his Tha Carter V album, out Dec. 9, Weezy covered NYLON Guys magazine and talked about his passion for making music. The only artists on his level, he said, are Kanye West and Beyoncé.
"When I first started [rapping], you only did it to be the best," Wayne told NYLON, MTV News notes. "Not to have a hot song or popularity or for Instagram or Twitter. You have to want to be unforgettable. The only other people who I can think of like that are Kanye and Beyoncé.
"What I mean by that is that all I am is music. That's all I do and all I know, 366 days a year, 25 hours a day, eight days a week," he added. "This is my life and what I breathe. This isn't something I do. It's who I am."
Dec. 9 is hopefully the final release day that will be set for Weezy's 11th studio effort. It was suppose to drop in July and August before the Young Money crew set a date for Oct. 28. That never happened.
"Honestly, I've been working hard every mothaf**king day on this album, and this album mean a whole lot to me. I know the real fans out there, it means a whole lot to them, too," he assured fans in October in a video. "So I kind of refuse to cheat them and just give them anything, anything rushed. I recorded so many songs that we needed to come up with an idea, a way to get all the music out there. Not just 13 songs or 12 songs."
Recently, Weezy showed his love for daughter Reginae Carter by throwing her an awesome Sweet Sixteen.
