The rumors are true: DJ Premier and Pete Rock will be blessing us with a new album in 2015. Premier alerted fans of the impending release via a Reddit AMA session — the news sort of slipped out after discussing a potential sequel to PRhyme, his forthcoming disc with Royce da 5'9".
"We have talked about doing a sequel but we will see later down the line after this one comes out," Premier said (via Hip Hop DX). "As for the Pete Rock Album, we are doing a single in January to start the project. He is producing half of it and I am doing the other half."
January comes after after December. That means new DJ Premier/Pete Rock will be available next month!
Primo also discussed his beef/non-beef with Notorious B.I.G.
"Me and Big never had beef," he said. "There was some issues regarding one of my artists Jeru The Damaja but that got taken care of.
"'One Day' did spark the controversy," he admitted in a separate answer. "I went thru the motions but all is well and me and BIG cleared it up before he died. Plus BIG was NEVER called out on that record at all. speculation can sometimes lead to the wrong point getting across. As for Jeru, he and I are totally fine. We split over a business decision. We are gonna work this year on some new stuff."
PRhyme is Premier's biggest release on the table.
The project began as a five-song Slaughterhouse EP, but soon shifted to a Premier/Royce LP strictly featuring Adrian Younge samples.
"The biggest challenge for me was Producing a full LP with ONLY sampling Adrian Younge's catalog of music," he added. "But Royce convinced me to give it a chance. I am happy that I took the chance to do something different. Now we have PRhyme December 9th."
