Bob Geldof and Band Aid 30: Media Can't Help but Wonder Where Paul McCartney's At

You won't hear any complaints regarding a lack of talent on Band Aid 30, the new charity all-star band assembled by Bob Geldof to record "Do They Know It's Christmas" to raise funds for combatting Ebola in Africa: One Direction, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheeran...plenty have shown up and plenty have downloaded the single accordingly. One question still gets posed frequently to the Band Aid honcho however: Where's Paul McCartney? The former Beatle and still massive solo performer took part in the original recording during 1984 and came back for the 20th anniversary during 2004 (albeit skipping the smaller Band Aid II during 1989), according to NME.

"Macca's always done stuff. He was in the band in 2004-him, Radiohead and Damon [Albarn]...but look, on this we've got from the newest to the hippest to the oldest... and he hasn't made the cut, what can I tell you?" he said to The Daily Mirror. "The thing is, there's only so many lines, so what do you do?"

He listed many of the performers we mentioned during the first paragraph as acts that are "caning it" in the United States at the moment, citing their popularity as reason for including them versus one of the greatest songwriters of all-time. Admittedly, the acts listed above, as well as Sam Smith, have all had smash singles in recent years. Still, the idea that McCartney has become unhip is laughable. As for the lack of lines for the icon, we're fairly convinced that the bassist would be willing to play on the record, if nothing else, considering his dedication to charitable causes seems to rise above his personal vanity.

We're not bold enough to criticize the cause however.
