Jimmy Page announced during 2012 that he would be remastering Led Zeppelin's the legendary band's entire back discography, and for a band with as extensive a back catalogue, that could take a while. Vocalist Robert Plant recently announced that he had discovered some previously unreleased tracks and that fans might look forward to some seeing the light of day.
"I found some quarter-inch spools recently," he said. "I had a meeting with Jimmy and we baked 'em up and listened to 'em. And there's some very, very interesting bits and pieces that probably will turn up on these things."
No doubt part of what he referred to as "very interesting bits" included several tracks featuring bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones on lead vocals. Plant was renowned as one of the premier vocalists during his era, famous for his falsetto wail on tracks such as "Immigrant Song." Jones has been involved with several music projects post-Zeppelin, but has tended to stay away from the role of vocalist, although he did sing lead during "The Battle of Evermore" during one of the band's tours.
Plant suggested that the bassist wasn't necessarily pleased that the unreleased recordings were going to see the light of day.
"So far, he's going to give me two cars and a greenhouse not to get 'em on the album," the regular vocalist told Rolling Stone.
Plant's announcement doesn't have anything to do with promoting the remasterings necessarily, however. There's still no release date planned, and as we mentioned, it could take a while.
