The hottest event in Washington D.C. last night was undoubtedly the Christmas in Washington concert, an annual event now in its 33rd year that brings big acts to perform and raise money for the Children's National Health System. Among the performers this year were Aloe Blacc, Rita Ora, Darius Rucker, Christina Perri and Hunter Hayes. Oh, and President Barack Obama brought his family to the event as well. He and host Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson got along swimmingly.
"You can see the resemblance," Obama said, according to The Washington Post. "I have a little more hair."
Every performer played a few hits at the National Building Museum as well as tackling a Christmas song (of course): Blacc took a swing at "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on An Open Fire)", Rucker played "Please Come Home for Christmas," Perri sang "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christman" and Ora joined the Washington Youth Choir for a rendition of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" Hayes played a cover of Chuck Berry's "Run Run Rudolph," to which the president "bopped his head," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
No doubt the highlight of the night was Johnson's performance of "Deck The Halls," a play on the actor's former career as a professional wrestler. Earth, Wind and Fire made a surprise appearance to perform "Winter Wonderland," which no doubt appealed to Obama, a noted soul fan.
All of the performers came together at the end of the show to perform a medley of "O Come, All Ye Faithful" and "The First Noel."
The show will be rebroadcast Friday evening on TNT.
