The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2013 induction nominees on October 15, including KISS, Nirvana, N.W.A. and more. Although there's no limit to how many can be allowed into the hall by the panel of 600 voters, we at Music Times have been reading too much The Hunger Games and wondered: What if there could be only one?
Therefore we've organized the nominees into a bracket, and are giving you, the reader, the chance to vote for the artists of your choice. Is it fair? No, but it will certainly test your loyalty to your favorite acts. We'll release one quadrant a day for voting, and hopefully give you a chance to learn something about the acts along the way.
FINAL ROUND: KISS vs. Peter Gabriel
As we hoped, the final four of the bracket came down to the wire on both sides. KISS had dominated the first few rounds of the tournament, dominating its opponents with the help of the loyal KISS Army, however it had its hands' full with Linda Ronstadt. The songstress might not have had face paint or guitar solos on her side, but when the final tally went down, the New York heavy metal crew managed to edge Ronstadt by a mere three votes.
On the other side of the arena, Nirvana and Peter Gabriel were locked in an equally deadlocked match. Nirvana was predicted by the bookies at Music Times to be the favorite at the beginning of the tournament, but Peter Gabriel had proven that he remained relevant among our somewhat young readership. In a surprise victory, Gabriel and his "Sledgehammer" overcame the grunge icons by a mere one vote. There's always next year, guys.
So the final battle comes down to the hard-rocking glam of KISS, versus the eye-catching prog of Peter Gabriel. All that stands between these music legends and Music Times glory is your vote.
