Beck has announced Morning Phase to be the first album on his new label. It has been almost five and a half years since his last release, 2008's Modern Guilt.
According a press release, the new album will evoke the Sea Change musical stylings that "harkens back to the stunning harmonies, song craft and staggering emotional impact of that record, while surging forward with infectious optimism. It will also feature some of the same musicians including Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Joey Waronker, Smokey Hormel, Roger Joseph Manning Jr. and Jason Falkner.
The alt-rocker has been slowly releasing material over the past year. In 2012, he unveiled Beck Hansen's Song Reader, an "album" composed entirely of sheet music with McSweeney's. In February, he remade David Bowie's Sound and Vision with a 157-piece orchestra on a rotating, circular stage. Over the last five months, he has also released three non-album singles, "Defriended," "I Won't Be Long," "Gimme."
Morning Phase is due out in February via Capitol Records. Listen to his most recent singles here, and let us know what you think in the comments section below.
