Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" has become one of the year's biggest hits, despite being only released in November. As such, it is inevitable that there will be a slew of covers and remixes to try and piggy back off of the "Blank Space" singer's success. One such group is Six13, a Jewish a cappella group who has reworked the vocals to fit with the theme of Hanukkah, just in time for the commencement of the eight day festival of lights, tonight.
The six-man group keeps the same rhythms of the song, which is aided by the fact that Hanukkah and "Shake It Off" have the same number of syllables, while telling the story of the Jewish holiday as noted by Time. Accompanied by amusing visuals to hit (mostly) the theme of the song, the group nails the timing the lyrics of "Shake It Off." This song may be getting a lot of plays over the next eight days.
We at Music Times wish a Happy Hanukkah to all of our Jewish readers and a blessed holiday season to you all. Watch the video below and check out a snippet of lyrics. If you are feeling inspired, send a special Chanukah "Shake It Off" greeting card to a friend or loved one via the Six13 website.
Cause we're counting up to eight, eight, eight, eight, eight
We escaped an awful fate, fate, fate, fate, fate
We're gonna celebrate, -brate, -brate, -brate, -brate
It's Chanukah, Chanukah!
Light the candles every night, night, night, night, night
And the blessings we'll recite, -cite, -cite, -cite, -cite, -cite
For the festival of light, light, light, light, light
It's Chanukah, Chanukah!
..........
Cause we're counting up to eight, eight, eight, eight, eight
We escaped an awful fate, fate, fate, fate, fate
Yeah that's how we celebrate, -brate, -brate, -brate, -brate
It's Chanukah, Chanukah!
The candles gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn
And the dreidel's gonna turn, turn, turn, turn, turn
Got some history to learn, learn, learn, learn, learn
For Chanukah, Chanukah!
