Katy Perry will make sure to hit Australia during her next world tour as well, and hit it hard. The pop star played an impressive 23 dates during her recent run on the "Prismatic" tour and sold more than 350,000 tickets along with breaking some individual arena numbers along the way. She's now the all-time record holder for a stretch of shows at Allphones Arena in Sydney, where she sold out six gigs, a total of 89,500 tickets, according to Billboard.
"They've all done amazing. But she's a star performer," promoter Paul Dainty said of shows he's sponsored including Perry, Eminem and Miley Cyrus. "In this market, 350,000 is enormous. She's a mile ahead of everyone else. Once, every so often, you see a tour that beomes something extraordinary. For all intensive purposes, we'd sold out within two days of going on sale in March. Sadly, though you can't expect her to work endlessly, that was the tip of the iceberg."
Dainty suggested that Perry could have pulled off another dozen shows in the country with sellout turnouts.
Live dates aren't the only thing she's selling big in Australia: Perry has also gone five-time platinum with her most recent album, Prism (platinum status in Australia is 70,000 records sold) and her single "Roar" is 11-times platinum.
All that said and records aside, P!nk is still the pop star to beat in Australia: Her 2009 "Funhouse" tour sold more than 650,000 tickets...but she also played a total of 58 gigs. Perry might not have it in her to stick around the country that long, considering her thoughts on the Australian paparazzi.
