Miguel: Ludacris
The first track, "nwa," is a slow burner that features the talents of Kurupt over hypnotic guitars and light percussion. He picks it up on "hollywooddreams" and turns the funky soul all the way to 10. That one's radio-ready for sure. The closer, "coffee," is a little more contemporary as far as production value. Miguel's silky voice blends effortlessly with some bits of electronica. Listen to all three below.
Kaleidoscope Dream hit number three on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. It contained the singles "Adorn," "How Many Drinks" and "Do You..."
"Just when you thought there were no new ways to say 'I love you,' here comes Miguel Pimentel: 'I'm gonna do you like drugs tonight,'" Rolling Stone wrote in a three and a half star review. "With this pledge, Miguel proves that he is, easily, uninhibited enough to inherit the tradition of eccentric R&B freakiness handed down from Marvin Gaye to Prince to R. Kelly."
The crooner spoke to Billboard back in February about his vision for his third LP.
"When you hear music in your head, and you're actually creating it, it feels good," he said. "As a musician, we hear things in our heads, and sometimes it doesn't really come out the way we hear it. Somehow, this time around, it's coming out exactly how I imagined it. The only thing I want to do is be in the studio, because you never want to forsake your creativity. You want to honor it."
