Katniss Everdeen may be the girl on fire, but Ellie Goulding is smoldering in her own way. The "Lights" singer has previewed her track for the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack, "Mirror," today (Nov. 4).
In typical Goulding fashion, the track heavily incorporates atmospheric electronic elements with dreamy, dissonant vocals from the English songstress. Sounding like a floating, winding angel, Goulding incorporates themes from Catching Fire into the sizzling song into the lyrics.
Goulding sings from the perspective of Katniss Everdeen, addressing specifically her relationship with fellow Hunger Games contestant Peeta Mellark and her "girl on fire" status. "And we're star-crossed lovers / Did I really want you gone? / If I'm really a winner / Where do these demons come from / I was the girl that was on fire / Are you gone?" she sings in the 90-second snippet.
Other themes include some inner turmoil from Katniss as she contemplates her place in Panem and her place in the revolution. Though the song is far more direct in its Hunger Games connection than previously released songs such as Coldplay's "Atlas," "Mirror" still manages to feel universal enough to cross over from The Hunger Games into real American culture.

Of course, Goulding isn't the only major musical played to contribute to the Catching Fire soundtrack. Coldplay, Christina Aguilera and Lorde will also perform songs on the CD inspired by the film. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack will be released on Nov. 19, three days before the film hits theaters.
