Kendrick Lamar was just as disappointed as you were that Kanye's Yeezus tour had been postponed in many cities, including Vancouver, Denver, Minneapolis, Anaheim and Chicago. The Compton rapper talked with MTV over the weekend at Power 105.1's annual Powerhouse concert in Brooklyn about the situation and what he plans to do in the meantime. Luckily, the tour starts up again Nov. 16 in Philadelphia.
"I was looking forward to them cities man," he told them. "Now we gotta wait and sit back but I'll go in the studio and put that energy into the booth. But I definitely was looking forward to them cities. Hopefully, we get back on as soon as possible."
Although hailed as the biggest name in the rap game right now, Lamar is still humbled by Kanye's work, which has challenged him to revaluate how he looks at his stage performance.
"First off, just being a fan of his work and actually going on tour with him, that's just a whole 'nother world," Kendrick told them. "Second, watching him perform and seeing how much he put into his presence onstage, it just reassures me that coming out the booth, you gotta take just as much attention on that stage, and put work in on that."
The postponement is due to the destruction of stage equipment from a car accident. According to the article, the gear was crucial to the set design for the show.
"This gear is central to the staging of The Yeezus Tour, and central to the creative vision put forth by Kanye West and his design team at DONDA," Def Jam said in a statement last week. "
"As a result of this event, it is impossible to put on the show and The Yeezus Tour will be postponed until these essential pieces can be reengineered and refabricated. Kanye West will not compromise on bringing the show, as it was originally envisioned and designed, to his fans. The Vancouver, Denver and Minneapolis dates have been postponed. Further details on the affected tour dates will be announced shortly."
Despite the setbacks, Lamar is still happy to be a part of the tour. "It's a great experience, man and I'm happy, I'm excited," he told MTV. "It's a blessing for sure."
Of the cities affected by the delay, Chicago, Toronto and Detroit have been rescheduled for late December. Unfortunately, Vancouver, Denver, Columbus, Montreal, Minneapolis, and St. Louis have been cancelled with no rescheduling. The tour will continue as follows below:
