Britney Spears named 'Save The Music' ambassador by VH1

Can Britney Spears save the music? VH1 thinks so. Spears has been named an ambassador of Vh1's "Save the Music" program. According to Rolling Stone, Spears will lead a 2014 class joined by Hunter Hayes, Jason Derulo, Taye Diggs, Diane Birch and Cher Lloyd.

According to its website, VH1 "Save the Music" Foundation is a "non-profit organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education in America's public schools, and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child's complete education." Since 1997 they have funded $51 million in new musical instruments for 1,900 public schools in 192 districts, benifiting 2.3 million children. Past ambassadors include Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx, Jason Mraz, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry.

"I am so proud to be a VH1 Save the Music Foundation ambassador," Spears said in a statement. "Music has always been a big role in my life, and as a mother, I can't imagine my children growing up without it."

Spears is less than a month away from releasing her eighth studio album, Britney Jean. The album, which follows up 2011's Femme Fatale, is due out Dec. 3. The tracklist has not yet been revealed, but she has dropped two singles for the album, "Work B**ch" and "Perfume." Starting December 27, she will begin her residency at Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood with shows running through 2015.
